Why people call
People call us in Chester County when a deadbolt key is lost, when they want to stop sharing physical keys, or when a rental, office or shared house needs controlled access without changing every lock. They want keypad or app control that fits the existing door and still lets a mechanical key work if needed. We explain tradeoffs up front and show the actual lock options that will fit the door and frame. Because we work out of a van based in Havertown, we bring what we need and do the job at the property.
02
What the job involves
The job starts with a quick inspection of the door, jamb and the existing lock hardware to confirm compatibility. We remove the current trim where necessary, fit the new cylinder or latch assembly, and install the keypad or electronic deadbolt on the exterior and the thumbturn or module on the interior. We keep the mechanical key override so a key still operates the lock. Before we leave we program user codes and pair the lock with the customer’s phone app if they want mobile access, and we test every function.
03
Across the county
Doors, frames and expectations vary across the county. In Phoenixville and Kennett Square we encounter older houses with thicker doors and mortise locks that often need an adapter plate or a different cylinder length. In Paoli and other suburban areas there are newer entry doors with standard bore holes where a direct swap is usually possible, and with townhouses or small commercial units we may deal with metal doors and reinforced frames that need different fasteners. We choose parts and fit methods to match the door material and how the space is used.
04
Before we arrive
Before we arrive, empty the area around the door so we have room to work and a clear place to set parts and the locks we bring. Have the existing keys and any documentation for the current lock handy, and tell us if the door sticks, the frame is painted over the strike, or if there’s an alarm, strike interlock or door sensor that must remain connected. Decide who needs codes and which phone will be the primary app account; if you can be present we’ll walk you through code management and show how to use the mechanical key override before we finish.
