Lock and key work in Chester, PA

What people call about

People call us for a wide range of lock and key problems. On the residential side that means emergency lockouts, broken key extraction, rekeys and lock changes after a move, deadbolt repair, and installing or replacing hardware to meet new needs. We also handle car lockouts and car key replacement, from cutting emergency blades to programming remotes and transponders. For small businesses and storefronts the calls include replacing damaged cylinders, fixing malfunctioning exit devices, and upgrading older mechanisms to meet heavier use. Our service list covers Emergency Locksmith, Car Lockout, Car Key Replacement, and Residential Locksmith work across the area.

The buildings and the hardware

The building stock in this part of Delaware County brings specific hardware issues. You’ll see older single-family houses and rowhouses with wooden doors and mortise or rim locks that need different parts than modern cylindrical latchsets. There are also small apartment buildings and storefronts where commercial-grade hardware and exit devices see more wear and require heavier-duty springs and reinforced strike plates. That mix means we carry both mortise cylinders and standard Kwikset/Schlage-style replacements, plus components for muntin or panel doors, and experience fitting modern deadbolts into older doors without cutting away historic material.

The car side

On the vehicle side, the difference between old and new is mostly electronics. Older cars often need a simple cut blade and a tumbler service or a mechanical unlock. Modern vehicles commonly use transponder chips, proximity fobs, and immobilizer systems that require on-vehicle programming, remote cloning, or module resets. We cut keys, program fobs, and extract broken keys from ignitions and door locks. For emergency lockouts we use non-destructive entry methods when possible and carry the diagnostic tools and blank keys required to service a wide range of models, from older domestic cars to recent imports.

How we work

We work out of a mobile van that comes to you; there is no shop to visit and every job happens at the lock. Our technicians carry cylinders, blanks, key machines, programming tools, and common parts so we can complete most jobs on site. When you call we’ll tell you the realistic arrival window based on current jobs rather than promising an exact time. Tiger Locksmith has been working on locks for more than 13 years from a base in Havertown and operates across Delaware County as well as Chester County, Montgomery County, and Philadelphia.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

More questions people ask before calling.

My key snapped off in the lock of my Chester house, so can you get the broken bit out and make a new key?

We remove the broken fragment from the cylinder, cut a replacement key, and repair or replace a damaged cylinder if the cut broke teeth or bent the plug. Until we finish, do not try to turn the remaining pieces or poke anything else into the keyway; keep both halves of the key so we can match profiles and cut accurately.

My deadbolt only locks when I push the door or it’s getting stiff, so what’s up with that on my Chester rental?

We check alignment and either adjust the strike plate or the bolt so the deadbolt meets the strike cleanly, and we service or replace a worn cylinder if the lock itself is binding. In the meantime be gentle with the key and don’t add oil to the lock; have the door shut and the strike area accessible so we can see how the bolt fits.

I run a small shop and an employee left, can you make sure their keys no longer work for our doors?

We rekey or replace the locks so old keys no longer operate them, and we can set up a master-key system if you want keyed-different or keyed-alike control across doors. Please have photo ID and something showing you own or manage the business ready; we check them before we change any lock.

I want one key that opens every external door at my house, so can you do that?

We rekey the exterior locks to a single key where the cylinders allow it and will recommend replacement for any lock that cannot be converted. Have every current key for those doors available so we can match cuts and pin configurations; if a cylinder must be replaced, we’ll point that out and name which lock cannot be made to work with the single key.
