Lock and key work in Philadelphia, PA

What people call about

People call about a lot of different lock and key problems in Philadelphia. Emergency Locksmith calls are common: doors that won’t open, broken keys stuck in a cylinder, or locks damaged after a forced entry. For homes we do lock changes, rekeys, deadbolt installation, mailbox and interior lock fixes, and broken-key extraction. For cars we handle Car Lockout and Car Key Replacement work, cutting blades and programming remotes and transponder chips. We also service commercial storefront hardware, cylinders, exit devices, and panic bars. The work is practical, hands-on, and usually starts with figuring out what part of the mechanism failed and whether repair or replacement is the right move.

The buildings and the hardware

The building stock affects the locks you see. Many occupied properties here have older wood doors and frames or metal storefront doors; apartment buildings bring shared-entry hardware, intercom strikes, mailroom locks, and higher wear on common locks. Older residential doors frequently use mortise locks and rim cylinders that need different parts and a different approach than modern bored cylindrical locks. Apartment and commercial doors often need heavier-duty strikes and reinforced plates because of high traffic. That variety means we carry both modern cylinder deadbolts and parts for legacy mortise hardware, and we pay attention to door alignment and frame condition when installing or adjusting hardware.

The car side

On cars the job has shifted from cutting blanks to programming electronics. Older vehicles can often be opened and keyed with mechanical skill alone; newer models need key fob programming, transponder chip cloning, and sometimes on-board diagnostic access to pair a replacement key or fob. That means we bring cutting equipment for blade keys, transponder programmers, and remote programming tools. For lockouts we use non-destructive entry techniques when possible; when a key is missing or damaged we can supply and program replacement keys or fobs. Tell us the vehicle make, model, and year over the phone and we’ll prepare the right tools and blanks for the job.

How we work

We are a mobile-only service: there’s no shop counter to visit and no meeting place, the van comes to the address where the lock is. That setup lets us bring a range of parts, cylinders, cutting and programming gear, and the right drills and extractors to the location. On the phone we’ll explain what we can do at the spot and give a realistic estimate of how soon we can be with you rather than promising an arrival time we might not meet. With more than thirteen years working on locks across Philadelphia County, we focus on practical fixes and clear, technical answers to the problem at hand.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

More questions people ask before calling.

My key snapped off in the deadbolt, what can you do to get me back inside and a working key?

Extracting the broken key, we remove the remaining fragment, inspect the cylinder for damage, and cut a fresh key to match. If the cylinder is scored or binding we repair or replace it and test the lock. Have both pieces of the snapped key ready and don’t turn the lock or insert anything into the keyway before we arrive.

I lost my car key in Philadelphia, so can you make a new one at the car?

Cutting and programming a new transponder or remote key, we read the vehicle’s key system, cut the physical blade, and program the electronics to your car on-site. Tell us the exact year, make, and model when you call and have the car accessible and the hood closed or open as we request. Before we cut or program a key, we will need to see photo ID and the title or other paperwork showing the car is yours.

I manage several rental units in Philadelphia, can you rekey between tenants so each tenant only opens their door?

Rekeying your locks, we set each unit so an individual tenant key only operates that door while providing you with a master key that opens all designated units. We label or tag keys by unit during the job and can rekey deadbolts, knobs, and common-area locks as listed. We ask to see photo ID and a document naming you as owner or manager of the units before we rekey any unit.

Someone tried to force my front door and the lock's messed up, can you fix it so the door locks properly again?

If it just happened, call the police first; the door should stay as it is until they have finished. Replacing the damaged cylinder or whole lock, we remove compromised components, fit a new cylinder or lock body, and repair or reinforce the strike and door jamb so the bolt seats securely. After installation we cycle the lock and make new keys. Have the door available and any old keys or parts you kept so we can match finishes and function.
