Smart Lock Installation

Smart Lock Installation across Philadelphia County

Why people call

People in Philadelphia County call us for smart lock installation when the old key routine stops fitting their life. Some have lost a set of keys, some want app access for a roommate or short-term renter, and some want a keypad for easier package pickup or for cleaners and pet sitters. Others replace a lock after a break-in or after a tenant moves out. We are a mobile locksmith based in Havertown and our van comes to the door to fit the new hardware where the lock is now installed.

What the job involves

The job starts with a quick inspection of the existing lock and the door so we can match a smart lock that uses the current hole and bolt. We remove or adapt the old trim, fit the new lock body, and keep a mechanical key override that works with the original cylinder. We set up the keypad codes and pair the app to the lock, add the user access you want, and test key, code, and app operation before we pack up. We leave the lock ready for everyday use.

Across the county

Work varies across the county because the doors do. In Center City we often work on older rowhouse front doors and condo entry systems that need a compatible cylinder and sometimes a narrower backset. In Fishtown you’ll see a mix of renovated homes and newer builds where we adapt for thicker doors or added storm doors. In West Philadelphia we encounter vintage double doors and multiunit entries that require coordinated setup for people with building managers or shared lobbies. We adjust our approach to match the door, the bolt, and the mounting surface on site.

Before we arrive

Before we arrive, have the door unlocked if possible and clear the immediate area so we can work safely from the outside of the house. Put out the set of existing keys and any building access cards, and have the phone you want to pair with the lock handy with app store access and its account credentials. If you need specific codes or user names set up, write them down in advance. For apartment buildings, check with the building manager that you can change or add an exterior cylinder; we can work with that permission when we get there.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

More questions people ask before calling.

Can you install a smart lock on my existing deadbolt and keep my key working?

We can fit a keypad or app-controlled unit to your existing deadbolt and keep the mechanical key override operational. We check your current lock for compatibility, swap or adapt components as needed, program user codes and the app on-site, and demonstrate both key and electronic operation before we leave so you know how each method works.

Will you set up user codes and the mobile app for me?

We program administrator and user codes, install the mobile app on your phone if you want, link the lock to the app, and test access with both codes and the key. We explain how to add or delete codes, how the app shares temporary access, and make sure the mechanical key override still turns smoothly before we finish.

Will installing a smart lock require drilling or changing my door hardware?

Most smart locks replace the interior thumbturn or cylinder and use your existing deadbolt and strike plate, so major door hardware changes aren’t usually needed. We inspect the hole, latch, and strike, fit adapters or replacement cylinder parts if required, and avoid altering the door face. Mechanical key override is preserved unless the lock design requires a different cylinder.
