The buildings and the hardware
The built environment in this area affects the locks we see every day. Older wood doors with narrow stiles often have light-gauge mortise locks, surface-mounted strikes, or three-screw strike plates that can rip out under stress; multiunit buildings tend to keep original rim locks or simple bored cylindrical deadbolts. Storefronts sometimes still use outdated rim latches or single-cylinder deadbolts paired with aluminum frames that need different fasteners. That means more metalwork, longer screws, reinforced strike plates, or swapping in thicker, properly sized hardware rather than just tightening loose screws.
