Everything we do

Locksmith services in the Philadelphia area

9 kinds of work, in four groups: automotive, commercial, residential and emergency. The emergencies are the ones that cannot wait: a car you cannot get into, a front door that has shut behind you, a key snapped off in a cylinder. Those are about getting you back inside without wrecking the door.

Residential work is the planned side of a house, quieter and in the long run more important. Rekeying after a tenant leaves, changing a cylinder that has been forced, replacing a lock that has worn out, and fitting a smart lock so the mechanical override still works.

Commercial work is mostly about who holds a key. Setting up a master key system so a caretaker carries one key instead of eleven, changing cores when someone who had one has left, and keeping exit hardware and closers doing their job.

Cars are their own trade now. A blade cut on a machine is half the job; the chip has to be paired to the vehicle, and some makes will only accept a key when the car agrees to listen.

Safes are listed with the commercial work, and the work covers both installing them and opening them. Installing one means choosing the spot and anchoring it so it cannot simply be carried off. Opening one that will not open usually comes down to a dead battery or a handle forced past its stop, and we try the methods that leave the safe usable first.

Smart locks are filed under residential. They are sold as an upgrade and they usually are, but the part that matters is the mechanical override on the outside, because that is what you will be using the day the batteries die in February.

None of this work needs a state license, because Pennsylvania does not issue one for locksmiths. That cuts both ways: anyone can call themselves one, so the questions worth asking are about the job itself: what it involves, what hardware goes in, and who is turning up to do it.
