The buildings and the hardware
The building stock in Manayunk affects lock choices more than anything else. Many doors are older solid-core or wood-paneled units that need beefier strikes and longer screws to keep a latch from tearing out; apartments above storefronts often have thin metal entry doors and tubular latch sets that need reinforcement. Where multiple-unit entrances exist, we encounter master key systems and older mortise locks that require careful keying or part-sourcing. Storefronts and commercial units sometimes use rim exit devices or aluminum-frame locks that require specific tailpiece lengths. All of that changes the parts we bring and whether we repair, retrofit, or replace.
