The buildings and the hardware
The building stock in areas like this puts specific demands on hardware. Many houses and small apartment buildings still have older wooden doors and heavier frames, which often use mortise locks, rim cylinders, or nonstandard backsets; that can mean different latch lengths and bolt sizes than modern preps. Ground-floor storefronts and multifamily entries tend to use surface-mounted cylinders, exit devices, or commercial-grade mortises that require a different keyway or longer bolts. Those conditions change what parts we carry on the van and whether a job is a simple cylinder swap, a rekey, or a retrofit to a modern deadbolt or reinforced strike.
