What goes wrong
Commercial doors in offices and small retail in Bustleton usually fail in a handful of ways: cylinders seize from dirt and worn pins, mortise locks lose their hold because internal parts are broken or bent, exit devices and panic bars wear the linkages, and door closers come out of adjustment so the door bangs or drags. Keypads and card readers often fail electrically or from water damage, and master key systems get messy when keys are copied without record. We work on the physical parts: cylinders, cores, latches, reinforced strikes, exit trim and the wiring behind keypads, not on paperwork.

What the job involves
When we arrive we run a short on-site diagnosis and explain the options in plain terms. That can mean removing the cylinder to decode it, cutting and pinning a new core on the bench in the van, swapping a damaged panic bar for a like-for-like unit, replacing a bent latch, or running power and network to an access control panel and programming a keypad. We carry common parts and replacement cores in the truck, and we drive out from Havertown; we’ll tell you how soon we can come when you call so you can plan.

Good to know
While you wait, secure the area and keep staff out of the doorway if it’s a malfunctioning exit device. Identify who has authority to approve changes and have that person on site or reachable. Clear a path to the door and, if possible, remove any floor mats or furniture that block access to the hinges and strike. For card or keypad work, have a list of which employees need credentials and an authorized contact for issuing them. If the door controls an alarm, tell whoever monitors it that we’ll be working on the hardware.

Worth knowing
Have on hand anything that proves you control the space and the hardware: property management authorization, a copy of the lease or a signed work order, or a building manager’s contact. Bring any existing keys, a photo of the lock or keypad, and the name or part number stamped on the cylinder or exit device if you can find it. Note the door handing, the type of frame and whether the strike is reinforced. We work across Philadelphia County and neighboring counties and perform the physical locksmith work at the door rather than at a shop.
