The buildings and the hardware
The built environment here affects locks a lot. Many doors are older wood or hollow-core units set in frames that have shifted over time, so backset measurements, deep-set mortise pockets, and worn strike plates are common complications. Multiunit buildings mean a mix of apartment-grade cylindrical locks, older mortise cylinders, and shared entry systems. Storefronts and small offices tend to have aluminum or glass-and-aluminum doors with commercial cylinders, panic bars, and different keyways than a house. That variety changes the parts we carry and the approach: sometimes the fix is a simple cylinder swap, other times it’s reinforcing the jamb or fitting a compatible replacement cylinder.
