What goes wrong
Door problems we see in Center City homes are usually mechanical: a key breaks off in a mortise or cylinder, a deadbolt throws but the door sticks because the strike is misaligned, knob sets that have worn internal cams, or a multipoint lock that won’t engage. Electronic deadbolts fail when batteries die or wiring at the frame is frayed. Sometimes the problem is the door itself, swollen or warped from humidity so lock parts no longer line up. We diagnose whether the issue is the cylinder, the bolt, the strike, or the door before deciding on repair or replacement.

What the job involves
We drive out from Havertown carrying the tools and parts required for residential hardware: plug followers and key machines for rekeying, replacement cylinders and deadbolts, heavy forged strikes, screw packs for longer jamb screws, drills and extraction kits for broken keys, and programming tools for electronic locks. We work on-site, removing and disassembling the lock when needed, swapping parts, cutting new keys, or fitting a reinforced strike and jamb plates. If drilling is required we try to preserve the surrounding wood and keep the installation clean.

Good to know
While we work you can help the job go smoothly. Have proof that you live at the address and the keys you have on hand; if you don’t have a key bring photo ID and be prepared to confirm details about tenancy or ownership. Clear space around the door and move children and pets out of the immediate area. If there’s an alternative entrance that remains secure, keep it closed so we can focus on the affected opening. Taking a quick photo of the lock and door before we start can be useful for your records.

Worth knowing
When a replacement is needed think about hardware that actually matches how you use the door: a single-cylinder deadbolt with a long throw and a reinforced strike plate with three-inch screws holds better than short screws, and a solid forged knob or lever resists wear. For electronic locks note model and serial numbers and have the smartphone and any account passwords handy if you want remote features enabled. We can also fit weatherstripping, adjust the door, and lubricate moving parts so the new or repaired lock keeps working, especially useful in older Center City frames where settling or wear has shifted the fit.
