What goes wrong
Locks fail in a few predictable ways in emergencies. A key can snap in a seized cylinder, a bolt can be bent from forced entry, or a mortise lock can refuse to retract because the spindle is stripped or the cam has failed. We drive out from Havertown and work on the door where it stands: removing broken keys, disassembling cylinders, cutting a temporary key at the door, or replacing a damaged deadbolt or latch. We focus on what physically isn’t moving and get the mechanism back to working order.

What the job involves
An emergency job usually starts with an inspection to understand which part has failed. We check the cylinder, the pin or wafer stack, the cam and tailpiece, the strike plate and the bolt face. When possible we use non-destructive entry methods and only remove parts that need replacement. If a new cylinder or a different key profile is required we carry common profiles and blanks and can cut and file a working key on site, then set the lock so it operates smoothly with the new hardware.

Good to know
While you wait it helps to be in a safe spot near the door or vehicle and to have proof you have the right to access the property. For a house or apartment have a government ID and something that ties you to the address if you can; for a vehicle have the registration. Tell us about previous work on the lock, where spare keys are kept, and whether there are any special instructions for your door or deadbolt. That information lets us choose the right tools and parts when we get there.

Worth knowing
After we get the door open we’ll explain the failed component and what we replaced or repaired, and we’ll show you the new key so you can test it yourself. If the door suffered hardware damage we can install a thicker bolt or a reinforced strike and use longer screws through the jamb for better load transfer. We’ll point out any rough edges, check that the latch aligns, and recommend a spare-key plan. We work across Philadelphia and nearby areas such as Center City when emergency lockwork is needed.
