What goes wrong
Lock problems come in forms that surprise people: a key that snaps in a cylinder, a deadbolt with a bent tailpiece, an electronic keypad that won’t accept codes, or a latch that jams after a door shifts. When that happens in Old City we drive out from Havertown with a van stocked for on-site work. We tell callers honestly how soon we can come and what tools we plan to bring. Our job starts by making sure entry can be gained without damaging the door or hardware unless replacement is the only safe option.

What the job involves
On arrival we inspect the visible parts of the lock and the door frame to decide the least-destructive method. We use picks and tension tools on pin-and-tumbler cylinders, extract broken key fragments with picks and extractors, and remove locksets or cylinders where parts are seized. For electronic locks we check battery contacts and wiring before any forced moves. If a lock needs replacing we fit a compatible cylinder or a new mortise or deadbolt and adjust the strike and latch so the bolt throws cleanly and the door closes square.

Good to know
While you wait at the scene there are simple things you can do that save time and confusion. Have photo ID ready and some proof of occupancy or ownership where that’s required, gather any spare keys or the remnants of a broken key, and secure pets and small children away from the work area. If there’s an alarm or smart-lock app, turn the alarm off or have your phone handy to confirm codes. In Old City keep anyone who isn’t involved back a few feet so we can work without tripping over bags or strollers.

Worth knowing
To help us finish faster bring whatever you know about the existing hardware: the brand or stamped model on the lock face, whether the door is metal or wood, and whether the bolt is long-throw or has a reinforced strike. If it’s an electronic lock, have the backup code or the keypad’s serial sticker if possible. We work across Delaware County, Chester County, Montgomery County and Philadelphia and carry common cylinders, deadbolts, mortise parts, and keypad modules so we can get most jobs done on the spot. Keep a clear approach to the door and your phone nearby so we can confirm details before we start.
