The buildings and the hardware
The buildings here mix older houses and newer small-scale developments, and that split shows up in the hardware. Older homes usually have thicker, often recessed wooden doors with mortise or rim locks, struck plates set into the frame, and iron or brass hardware that needs careful fitting. Newer houses use thinner, hollow core doors with cylindrical locksets and latch assemblies that can tear out of poor-quality jambs; those require different screws, reinforced strike plates, or a wrap-around plate that spans the damage. Apartments and multiunit buildings commonly have uniform keyed locks and master-key setups that demand attention to key control and pinning, while small storefronts sometimes use commercial-grade knob locks or rim-mounted units with a separate deadbolt.
