The buildings and the hardware
The buildings here often mix older single-family homes with some small multiunit buildings and a handful of commercial storefronts, and that mix affects lock choices. Older wood doors and frames often have oversized mortise pockets or worn jambs that need longer screws, new plates, or a different strike spacing; modern steel or fiberglass doors usually take standard deadbolt and latch preparations. Apartments tend to favor keyed-alike systems or master keying, while storefronts use heavier-duty cylinders and exit hardware. We adjust the hardware to the door condition: you don’t fit a new high-security cylinder into a badly shifted frame without addressing the frame first.
