The buildings and the hardware
The built environment here matters to the hardware we use. Older wood doors and original frames often have mortise locks or rim cylinders that need different parts and skill than modern bored locks; you see thicker doors, wide stiles, and sometimes antique hardware that needs careful fitting. Newer construction and townhouse-style units use cylindrical locks and predrilled templates, which makes retrofit simpler but can show wear at the latch and strike. Small commercial storefronts require keyed-alike systems or panic hardware; each building type changes the parts we bring and the techniques we use to make a door secure and reliable.
