The buildings and the hardware
The local building stock affects the hardware you see and the repairs required. Many houses have older solid wood doors with mortise or rim locks that need different parts and cutting tools than modern cylindrical latchsets. Newer homes tend to use tubular latchsets and bored locks, and their doors often require installing reinforced strike plates or longer screws to stop frame movement. Small storefronts and outbuildings sometimes use thin, stamped metal doors and light-gauge panic hardware that bends or wears; those need heavier reinforcements or replacement parts matched to the door construction rather than a one-size fix.
