The buildings and the hardware
The local buildings affect the hardware we see. Single-family houses often have older wood doors fitted with mortise or older cylindrical locks that are worn, with thin strike plates and hardware that has worked for decades. Small apartment buildings bring repeated-use components (knobs and closers that get hammered daily), so we focus on robust replacements and latch alignment. Storefronts and commercial glass doors require commercial-grade cylinders, exit hardware, and surface-mounted locks or panic hardware; laminated or hollow metal doors call for different fasteners and reinforcement than solid-wood residential doors.
