What goes wrong
Locks fail in a handful of ways we see over and over: a key snaps in a cylinder, a deadbolt binds and won’t retract, a knob or lever is torn out, a latch is bent so the bolt won’t engage, or an electronic lock loses power and won’t accept input. We respond to those exact problems in West Chester homes, businesses and cars. A kicked or misaligned door often looks worse than the lock problem; sometimes the strike plate or door jamb needs repair alongside the lock. We also handle broken ignition cylinders and trunk locks but explain what we need first.

What the job involves
When we arrive we start by assessing how the hardware is fitted and what failed. We try non-destructive methods first: picking cylinders, extracting broken keys with picks and fine grips, manipulating latches and aligning strikes. If a cylinder is sheared or irreparably damaged we remove it and install a new cylinder or a replacement lockbody. For cars we work on wafer and pin tumbler locks, remove ignition cylinders when necessary, cut metal keys on-site and, where applicable, work with fob units. We drive out from Havertown and bring hand tools, replacement cylinders, extra keys and common parts.

Good to know
While you wait, the practical stuff helps speed the job. Stay safe and out of traffic if the problem is a car; if the lockout is at a house, confirm whether other doors or windows are secure and move to a safe room or a neighbor’s until we arrive. Have photo ID and proof of ownership or registration ready for vehicles; those documents let us confirm you’re the owner before we make or alter keys. If the door has visible damage, step back from splintered jambs or exposed nails and point out anything that’s been forced.

Worth knowing
Before we start work, tell us what kind of lock hardware is on the door or vehicle and any oddities we should expect: whether the deadbolt is a long throw, if the cylinder is rim or mortise style, whether the strike plate is reinforced, or if a keypad or smart lock has removable batteries. For cars note make, model and year and whether you have a key fob or a valet key. Take a photo of the lock or serial plate if you can. Call with those details, and we’ll explain what tools and parts we’ll bring and when we can come out.
