What goes wrong
Household emergencies start with familiar, mechanical failures: a key snapped inside a deadbolt, a jammed latch that won't retract, a lock cylinder spun free, or a door warped so the bolt won’t seat. We diagnose which part is binding (the tailpiece, cam, plug or strike) and whether the cylinder can be removed and rekeyed or must be replaced. In Westtown Township we commonly work on solid deadbolts, mortise locks, and reinforced entry sets. We drive out from Havertown with the tools to take apart the hardware and get the mechanism working again.

What the job involves
When a lock cylinder is fractured around a broken key we extract the fragment with extraction picks and vises or drill the plug out cleanly where extraction risks further damage. If the lock is damaged beyond repair we install a new cylinder or whole lock case, transfer existing hardware like thumbturns or escutcheons when they fit, and fit a reinforced strike if the frame shows deformation. We cut and file keys on site when key blanks match, and pin new cylinders to your existing key when possible.

Good to know
While we work you can help by getting paperwork ready that shows you have authority to let us operate on the lock, or by standing where we can see the door and hand off keys or parts. If you’re still locked out, leave a visible light on and tell us how the door behaves when you try to open it, whether there’s a deadbolt, mortise, or multi-point latch, and whether there are secondary security devices like a chain or surface-mounted bolts. Having the original keys, proof of ownership, and a clear path to the door speeds up the job and reduces the need for force.

Worth knowing
For properties in Westtown Township and nearby West Chester and Thornbury Township we carry common cylinder types, commercial mortise cores, tubular deadbolts, and a selection of replacement trim. We explain whether we can rekey the existing cylinder to your key or whether replacing the core is safer. If there’s damage to the frame or a long-throw deadbolt that won’t seat we can fit a heavier strike or suggest a solid-surface repair so the lock functions reliably. Call us when you need mechanical work on the lock itself; we come to the lock and fix what’s broken.
