Lock and key work in Fort Washington, PA

What people call about

People in Fort Washington call about the full range of lock and key problems: changing or rekeying door locks after a move, replacing worn deadbolts, extracting broken keys, fixing latch and strike alignment, and upgrading to heavier commercial hardware on doors that see a lot of use. We handle lockouts and emergency entries, install or repair thumbturns and passage knobs, and fit higher-security cylinders and hardened strike plates where security matters. On the residential side we provide Emergency Locksmith, Residential Locksmith, Car Lockout and Car Key Replacement services; for each job we use parts and techniques suited to the specific cylinder, bolt, or mechanism in place.

The buildings and the hardware

The buildings here bring particular hardware challenges. Many homes still have older wooden doors and mortise-style locks that need different tools and replacement parts than modern cylindrical locks; multi-family units can have communal entry hardware or steel security doors that require reinforced frames and longer bolts. Small business storefronts tend to use commercial-grade exit devices and keyed-alike systems, while newer condo units often have cylindrical door prep and thin metal frames. That variety means we carry both mortise and cylindrical cylinders, assorted backsets, adjustable strike plates, and the fasteners and drills needed to adapt a modern deadbolt to an older door without cutting corners.

The car side

On the vehicle side, lock and key work has split into two tracks: pre-2000 vehicles that use mechanical cut keys and simpler tumbler removals, and modern cars that depend on transponder chips, proximity fobs, and onboard immobilizer programming. We cut and program replacement keys and fobs, extract snapped automotive keys, defeat frozen trunk locks and service manual keyways where appropriate, and handle lockouts across makes. Modern key programming requires the correct diagnostic tools and security procedures; older cars often only need a new cut key and a cylinder re-pin. We match the method to the vehicle rather than applying a one-size-fits-all fix.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

More questions people ask before calling.

My deadbolt is getting stiff and in Fort Washington it only locks if I shove the door, so what's going on?

We check the door alignment and either adjust the strike plate or the bolt so they meet properly; if the cylinder is worn we service or replace it. Until we get there, be gentle with the key, don’t force it, and do not put oil in the lock. Have the door closed the way you normally use it.

I just snapped a key off in my front lock, can you handle that?

We extract the broken key fragment, then cut a new key and repair or replace a damaged cylinder as needed. Don’t try to turn the broken half, and don’t poke anything into the keyway. Keep both pieces of the key together and have the door in its usual closed position so we can match the lock.

My car remote stopped working here in Fort Washington; what should I do?

First we try a fresh battery in the fob and test the unit; if that doesn’t fix it we test the receiver and program a replacement key or remote at the vehicle. Have the vehicle present and any current spare fob or key available. Before we program a new fob or key, we go over photo ID together with the car's title or registration card with you.

I manage several rental units and need the locks rekeyed between tenants, so how does that work?

We rekey each lock so a tenant’s key only opens their door while the owner’s master key still opens all units; we can create keyed-alike or master-key systems per your plan. Have a clear list of every unit and which doors need work. Before we rekey any unit, we look at your ID and paperwork showing the units are yours to manage.
