The buildings and the hardware
The built environment in and around Maple Glen affects the hardware we see. Much of the housing has door frames and pre-existing holes sized for older cylindrical locks or mortise sets, so we often retrofit modern deadbolts into an older door without cutting new, irregular mortises. Apartment buildings bring a different set of needs: keyed-alike systems, mailbox and utility room locks, and high-cycle commercial-grade hardware for common doors. Storefronts usually have exit devices, glass-door cylinders and panic hardware: those jobs demand shop-quality cylinder removal and precise alignment rather than cosmetic fixes.
