The buildings and the hardware
The mix of housing and building types in Upper Dublin changes the hardware issues we see. Older detached homes often still have mortise locks, rim cylinders and original heavy wooden doors that need larger backsets or reinforced strike plates; those jobs usually mean custom fitting or mortise-cylinder replacements. Newer houses tend to use bored cylindrical locks and have prepped doors for standard deadbolts, which makes replacement straightforward but requires attention to door edge and latch depth. Low-rise apartment buildings bring keyed-alike concerns and communal entry hardware, while small storefronts and offices use commercial-grade cylindrical locks, panic bars and aluminum door frames that require different fasteners and trim.
