The buildings and the hardware
The mix of buildings in this area affects the hardware we see. There are many single-family houses alongside small multiunit buildings and a handful of storefronts, so we work on older wooden doors with mortise-style hardware, warped jambs that need longer screws and reinforcement, and light-gauge interior doors with simple latchsets. Storefronts often use aluminum frames and narrow stile doors with cylindrical locks or exit devices that require different plates and fasteners. That variety means more on-the-spot fitting: enlarging holes, replacing or adapting old cylinders, reinforcing strike plates, and matching trim and finishes to keep doors operating properly.
