The buildings and the hardware
The building stock affects the hardware we use more than anything: older wooden doors can have warped jambs that require longer strike plates and different screws; metal entry doors need reinforced frames and often take different latch sizes or special retrofit cylinders; multi-unit buildings or apartments usually use keyed-alike or master-key arrangements that require careful rekeying to maintain separate access. Storefronts and commercial doors, when present, typically need heavier-duty mortise locks or exit devices and more frequent maintenance. We choose parts and installation methods that match door thickness, frame condition, and how the door is used day to day.
