The buildings and the hardware
The built environment in and around Prospect Park affects the hardware we see. Many houses have older wooden doors with mortise lock pockets or narrow stile jambs that require retrofit plates and longer screws; apartment entries often use surface-mounted or cylinder locks that are easier to rekey but can have thin strike plates. Storefronts tend to have rim or exit-device hardware and sometimes aluminum doors with tubular latches. That mix changes the job: wooden door pockets need precise fitting, aluminum frames require different fasteners, and older mortise parts may be corroded or hollow inside and need service rather than a direct swap.
