The buildings and the hardware
Rutledge has a mix of smaller houses and a number of multi-unit properties, and that mix shows up in the locks. Older wood doors often need deeper mortises and longer screws; old frame conditions mean strike plates and box strikes get upgraded as part of a lock replacement. Apartment units frequently use standard 1-inch or 1-1/8-inch backset cylinders and knob or lever locks on hollow-core doors, which limits what you can install without reinforcing the door. Storefronts and small commercial entries require commercial-grade cylinders, exit hardware, or panic bars; the mounting and frame condition determine whether you can reuse an existing lock or need a new faceplate and reinforced strike.
