What goes wrong
Vehicles lock up for a few usual reasons: a key left on the seat, a fob battery that died, a worn mechanical blade that shears under torque, or a jammed latch that won’t retract. We explain which failure we see and why the mechanism behaved that way before we touch anything. If the car has a separate heavy-latch lock on the door edge or an aftermarket steering column lock, we point out the extra steps those require. We work on metal latches, linkages and electronic actuators without guessing.

What the job involves
When we arrive we assess access options and choose the least invasive method that will work with the door and lock construction. That may mean manipulating the lock cylinder, using an air wedge to create a working gap, operating the interior linkage directly, or bypassing a faulty actuator. We carry a selection of picks, tension tools, wedge materials and powered lock picks intended for cars, plus replacement blades and fob programming tools. We protect trim and paint while we work and explain the mechanical situation as we proceed.

Good to know
While we travel from Havertown and prepare to get to work, having a few things ready speeds the job. We ask for the vehicle make, model and year, whether the lock is manual or has power locks, and if the keys are in plain sight, hidden in a bag, or locked in the trunk. It helps if the owner can stand by with the vehicle registration or title to confirm ownership, and to tell us whether any other door or the trunk was left unlocked. We also need clear access to the door edge and handle.

Worth knowing
After access is gained we can repair common issues on the spot: replace a broken key blade, cut a new mechanical key to code from the lock, or replace a worn cylinder and install a new strike or reinforced latch if needed. We can rekey a conventional cylinder to match an existing key or program a replacement fob when the vehicle supports on-site programming. In Folcroft or nearby Glenolden we leave work in a safe, operable state and describe any parts we recommend swapping for long-term reliability so customers know exactly what the hardware needs.
