What goes wrong
The most common emergency calls we handle in Pottsgrove are straightforward mechanical failures: a key snapped in a pin-and-tumbler cylinder, a deadbolt that refuses to retract, a latch jammed by a swollen door edge, or a keyed entry set whose cylinder has seized. We also handle vehicle lockouts where a trunk release or glove box lock won’t operate. In every case the immediate problem is physical (metal parts that have shifted, corroded, or sheared), and our first step is to identify exactly which component is stopped from doing its job.

What the job involves
When we get to a call we assess the lock and the surrounding door or frame, looking for bent bolt faces, loose mounting screws, worn cylinder tails, and misaligned strikes. We prefer non-destructive methods: tension and pick for pin stacks, lock bypass where a latch can be nudged, or extracting a broken key with proper tools. If a cylinder is damaged we install a replacement cylinder or a new deadbolt with a longer throw and a reinforced strike, and we fit keys to the new hardware. We travel out from Havertown in fully stocked vans so we can cut keys or swap cylinders on site.

Good to know
While we work you should remain in a safe spot away from the door or vehicle, and keep children and pets clear of the work area. If it’s a lockout stay calm; don’t try to force the door, hammer at the cylinder, or pull hard on a stuck key; those actions can bend or break parts and make the repair more invasive. If it’s an electronic keypad, have any known codes or passwords available, and if it’s a car bring whatever proof of ownership you normally carry. We’ll tell you what to do next once we see the hardware.

Worth knowing
Before we start, have photo ID and proof that you live at or own the property ready to show, along with any keys you still have and the make and model of an affected vehicle if one is involved. For door jobs, a quick description of the door construction (solid wood, hollow core, metal skin) and whether the frame has visible damage helps us bring the right reinforcement plates and longer screws. In many Pottsgrove calls people opt to rekey the existing hardware or replace the cylinder and upgrade the strike; we explain the physical differences so you can decide which fix matches the problem.
