What goes wrong
Locks on houses fail in a few predictable ways: cylinder pins wear and drop, keys bend or snap, deadbolt bolts bind against a worn strike, and latches skip the keeper when the door has shifted. We see swollen wood, loose screws at the hinge, and padlocks corroded from weather. In Havertown homes we commonly work on single-cylinder and double-cylinder deadbolts, knob locks with internal wafer or pin mechanisms, mortise locks and surface-mounted night latches. We describe the symptom plainly and start from the hardware itself.

What the job involves
When we arrive we go straight to the lock and inspect the cylinder, bolt, strike and door fit, looking for broken key fragments, sheared screws, or a worn spindle. We can rekey most pin-tumbler cylinders by removing the plug and swapping pins, or replace the cylinder or entire lockset if parts are worn beyond reliable service. For reinforced doors we fit longer screws in the strike and hinge and can install a metal strike plate or a full metal wrap for the jamb when necessary. We drive out from Havertown with our stock and key blanks.

Good to know
If you call us, keep the door closed and locked if that is safe, or sit in a nearby room while we work if you prefer to avoid watching. Have photo ID and something that shows you live at the address ready if we need to confirm ownership before we cut keys or force entry. If a key broke, locate any fragments or the broken head; if a lock has an electronics module, tell us the brand and batteries you tried. We’ll explain options on site and show the worn parts before replacement.

Worth knowing
To speed the job along have your existing keys, any previous lock packaging or a model number, and a clear view of the door edge and jamb. Measure or note whether the door is metal or wood, whether the lock is a rim or mortise type, and whether the strike has a short or long throw. If you live near Ardmore or the other suburbs and have a gated entry or a security panel, tell us that when you call so we can bring the right tools. We handle the mechanical and electronic work on residential doors and give straightforward, technical answers about what we’ll do.
