The buildings and the hardware
The borough’s buildings affect the hardware choices we see. Many properties have older wooden doors with mortise locks or heavy center-latch cylinders; those benefit from reinforced strike plates and upgraded deadbolts. Apartments tend to use cylindrical locks and keyed entry systems, where rekeying is common when tenants change. Small storefronts often have rim locks, exit devices, or padlocks on exterior gates; those require different parts and different installation techniques than residential deadbolts. In every case the door construction (metal, solid wood, hollow core) dictates whether new hardware needs longer screws, a different mounting plate, or a reinforced jamb.
