What goes wrong
We handle the common residential lock problems people call about in Trappe: a deadbolt that won’t fully throw, a knob that turns without retracting a latch, a jamb split from repeated force, or a smart lock that lost its connection. We diagnose whether the issue is mechanical (worn pins, a bent tailpiece, a broken spindle) or electrical, like a motor that won’t engage. For older doors we look for a worn strike or loose screws; for newer installs we check battery contacts, wiring, and alignment so the bolt can seat cleanly every time.

What the job involves
When we arrive we work from the outside in: inspection, test of the existing cylinder and bolt, then disassembly only as needed. For rekeying we remove the cylinder, extract the plug, and replace pins to match a new key; for replacements we fit a new cylinder or a whole lockset and trim the latch if the bolt rubs. If the door frame needs reinforcing we can install a longer-throw deadbolt and a reinforced strike plate with longer screws into the stud. We drive out from Havertown with the tools and common parts for these jobs.

Good to know
If you’re waiting at the property, stay in a room near the lock so you can open the door when we ask and hand over the old key or show which lock is acting up. For smart locks, have your phone and any existing PINs or account info ready so we can re-pair or reset access. If the lock is damaged from a break-in, please keep the area clear and, when possible, take photos for your records. We’ll explain any nonstandard parts or extra carpentry the door might require before we start.

Worth knowing
Have available the keys you normally use, and if there are spare keys hidden, tell us where rather than leaving them out in the open. If locks are part of a keyed-alike system, list which doors should match, and if you want a new master keying arrangement, be ready to show all affected locks. For work in multi-lock homes or on older mortise hardware, clear the immediate area around the door so we can lay out parts and work safely. We serve Trappe and nearby towns such as Collegeville, and we’ll answer technical questions about the parts and methods we recommend.
