What goes wrong
Homes in Mayfair and nearby blocks call us for the usual failures: a deadbolt that won’t throw because the bolt rubs the strike, a knob set where the tailpiece snaps, warped doors that bind a latch, or cylinders full of grit from years of weather. We see broken key sections stuck in cylinders, warped strike plates pulled free of their screws, and electronic keypad modules with corroded contacts. We describe problems in terms of parts so a homeowner knows we’re looking at the bolt, the cylinder, the strike and the door frame rather than guessing at a vague cause.

What the job involves
When we get the job we bring the tools and parts for residential hardware: replacement cylinders, long-throw bolts, reinforced strikes, tubular latch assemblies, and the specialized extraction bits for broken keys. We work on mortise and cylindrical sets, surface-mounted deadbolts, and keyed knobs. If a lock must be rekeyed we remove the cylinder, swap pins to match a new key, and test multiple cuts to make sure the key operates smoothly without binding. We carry blanks and key machines so we can cut on site when the cylinder is ready.

Good to know
While we drive out from Havertown and prepare, customers should secure pets and clear the immediate work area around the door so we can set out our tools or place a small work tray without moving furniture. If the issue is a stuck key, leave the cylinder accessible and tell us whether the key turns at all or is only partly removed. If you have copies of current keys, gather them; if you have a security system keypad, leave code information or the manufacturer’s manual handy so we can coordinate door hardware with existing electronics.

Worth knowing
For homeowners deciding what to have ready for a lock upgrade or repair, think about function and wear rather than brand names. Be ready to choose between a single-cylinder deadbolt with a thumb turn, a keypad deadbolt, or a reinforced entry with a long-throw bolt and a heavy-duty strike. If you want keyed-alike locks for multiple doors, gather the existing keys so we can match or rekey them together. We work across Mayfair and parts of Northeast Philadelphia, and we’ll explain the trade-offs for durability, ease of use, and how the hardware will sit in your current door and frame.
