What goes wrong
Homes in Frankford call us when the problem is obvious (a key that won’t turn, a bolt that rides up and won’t engage, a cylinder that spins loose in the door) or when it’s subtle, like a lock that sticks in humidity or a warped jamb that rubs. We see trim that’s been overdrilled, deadbolts with short throws, and knobsets whose internal springs have failed. We describe what’s wrong plainly and show the worn part, the broken tailpiece or stripped gear, so owners understand the mechanical issue before we begin.

What the job involves
When we work on a residential lock we start by evaluating the door and frame, the latch and strike, and the cylinder. Often the fix is a cylinder swap or replacing a mortise mechanism; sometimes the latch needs a longer throw or the strike needs a reinforced plate and through-bolts for a straight alignment. We carry a range of solid steel bolts, forged deadbolts, and hardened screws. We cut or rekey cylinders on site when the hardware allows and install new parts so the mechanism operates smoothly.

Good to know
If you call from Frankford we drive out from Havertown with the tools and hardware to do most common jobs where the lock sits. While we work, the best place for residents is off to one side with the door open so we can access the screws and tailpieces; pets should be secured and small children kept away from the work area. If you have the original key, keep it separate so we can test new operation, and if the deadbolt uses a separate key bring that too. A clear approach to the door saves time and prevents accidental damage.

Worth knowing
Before we start any replacement we explain the options in plain language: replace the cylinder, swap the whole lockset, add a reinforced strike, or drill and extract a broken key. We point out tradeoffs like replacing a worn latch versus reinforcing the strike and whether the new bolt will have a longer throw or a thicker faceplate. If you want keyed-alike locks we can rekey multiple cylinders to the same key. We work on single-family homes, rowhouses, and apartments in Frankford and nearby areas such as Mayfair and Port Richmond.
