What goes wrong
Cars lock for a dozen practical reasons: a key left inside and the door deadlocked, a transponder key that won’t communicate with the car, a snapped key stuck in the cylinder, or a jammed latch where the handle won’t move. In Mayfair we see mostly mechanical failures and driver errors, folded keys, worn teeth, and weather-swollen door seals that pinch a key. We explain what likely failed on the phone so you know whether the problem is the key, the cylinder, the latch, or the electronic system before we arrive.

What the job involves
When we work on a lockout we start by confirming vehicle make, model and the visible symptom. We carry tools for key extraction, cylinder manipulation, and electronic access where appropriate, and we use methods aimed to avoid drilling whenever the lock will respond to non-destructive techniques. If a key is broken off we extract metal fragments, check the core for damage, and either rekey the cylinder or make a replacement key on the spot when possible. We drive out from Havertown with the gear to handle most passenger cars and light trucks.

Good to know
While you wait it helps to be by the vehicle with proof of ownership and a photo ID; this speeds verification and keeps everyone safe. If you can, place the key fob and any spare keys on the hood and keep pets and children a safe distance away from traffic. If the vehicle is in gear, put it in park and set the parking brake. If you called from inside a building, tell us where you are parked and which door is locked so we don’t keep you on the phone asking for the same details.

Worth knowing
We will tell you how soon we can come when you call; we don’t promise a time we can’t keep. Once on scene we describe the steps we plan to take and your options: extract and cut a new key, rekey the cylinder, replace a damaged cylinder, or perform a diagnostic on a non-communicating transponder system. If there’s visible body damage to the door or striker we point it out and explain whether the lockwork alone will fix the issue or whether sheet metal work may be needed afterward. We handle the locksmithing on site where the car is.
