What goes wrong
Doors that won’t latch, deadbolts with seized cylinders, and keys that snap off in the lock are the kinds of calls we get from Germantown homes. Interior knobsets wear out, wooden door edges swell and pinch the latch, and older cylinders develop play so the key won’t turn. Sometimes the strike plate is pulled loose and the bolt has nothing to bear against. We describe the problem plainly, inspect the bolt and door edge, and explain the mechanical cause so you know what parts need attention.

What the job involves
When we arrive we assess the hardware first, looking at the cylinder type, tailpiece, whether the deadbolt has a long-throw bolt, and how the jamb is reinforced. We pick or use bypass techniques when that’s the least destructive option, extract broken keys, and replace or rekey cylinders if the tumbler stacks are the problem. For installations we recommend a solid, forged deadbolt and a reinforced strike, and we fit the parts to the existing door, cutting and mortising where necessary. We drive out from Havertown in our mobile van with the tools and parts we commonly need.

Good to know
While we work you can secure other entry points and keep children and pets out of the doorway. If the lock problem leaves you relying on a secondary latch, make sure that door is propped or otherwise kept out of use so we can focus on the failing hardware. It helps if someone on site can point out which key is for which lock and show any previous repair attempts or loose screws. We will ask to see a key or two and will confirm ownership before changing cylinders or handing over new keys.

Worth knowing
Have your keys together, any paperwork for recent lock purchases, and a clear path to the door so we can bring in a lockset and our tools without shifting things around. If you live in an upstairs apartment, keep elevator codes or gate codes handy and move bikes or trash bins away from the entrance. Tell us whether there are existing deadbolts, keyed knobs, or connected smart modules so we can pick compatible parts. We serve Philadelphia County and the surrounding towns, and we’ll explain what we plan to do before we start.
