What goes wrong
Locks in homes fail in predictable ways: keys snap in cylinder, deadbolts stick or refuse to turn, latch bolts miss their strike because the door has sagged, knob mechanisms wear out, and electronic locks run down or lose programming. We see door edges gouged by misalignment and strikes that have pulled away from the frame. In Eddystone we handle those failures and the actual metal and mechanics behind them, not abstract guarantees. We explain what failed and why, using straight talk about cylinders, bolts, strikes and the condition of the door itself.

What the job involves
A typical call starts with an on-site assessment. We examine the cylinder and cam, try non-destructive entry methods, extract broken key pieces with picks and extractor tools, and check for internal tumblers that are chipped or corroded. If a cylinder swap or rekey is needed we remove the lock, match the new cylinder to the existing bore and backset, and cut or code new keys. If door reinforcement is necessary we replace or relocate the strike, install longer screws into the framing, or fit a reinforced strike and plate rather than immediately drilling out the lock.

Good to know
While you wait for us to arrive, there are a few helpful steps. Keep the door and immediate area clear of children and pets, have photo ID and proof of residency ready to show, and don’t force the lock with tools that could make extraction harder. If you have alarm protocols, disarm or tell us how to contact the alarm company. Gather any old keys, any paperwork for a smart lock, and note which door swing and which side the hinges are on; that information speeds the assessment when we get to your home in Eddystone or nearby areas like Ridley Park.

Worth knowing
When we start the work, have the existing keys and any replacement hardware or parts you already bought available. If you’re replacing a deadbolt, tell us whether you want a single-cylinder or double-cylinder, and whether you plan to add a reinforced strike plate or a wrap-around plate. For electronic locks bring the model number or a photo of the keypad and battery compartment. We drive out from Havertown with a stock of cylinders, strikes, screws and extraction tools and do every job at the door where the lock is, explaining the fix and showing you the operation before we pack up.
