What goes wrong
Locks fail in obvious ways and in small, mechanical ways you might not notice until the door jams. We handle snapped keys, cylinders that rotate without engaging the bolt, deadbolts with broken thumbscrews, and latches that miss a reinforced strike because the frame has shifted. Often the problem is a worn pin stack, a bent tailpiece, or a hardened bolt seizing in its channel. We explain what part failed, show you the worn component if you want to see it, and outline the repair or the replacement lock that actually fixes the specific mechanical cause.

What the job involves
When someone calls with an emergency in Wyncote we load truck stock and head out from our base in Havertown; we work on the lock where it sits, not in a shop. Typical emergency jobs mean we pick or extract the broken key, remove and disassemble the cylinder, or, if the door hardware is damaged beyond repair, replace the lock and fit new screws and a reinforced strike. We carry common cylinders, knob and lever sets, tubular deadbolts, and extra screws to restore a secure latch and proper bolt throw on the spot.

Good to know
While we’re en route there are a few practical steps to take that make the job safer and smoother. If you’re outside, check for a spare key, pause attempts to force the door, and move children and pets away from the entrance. If you’re inside with a locked door, find photo ID and proof of residency or ownership to show us when we get there; that helps us verify access and avoid unnecessary damage. Clear the area around the door so we have room to work and set aside any loose trim or mounts you want saved.

Worth knowing
We regularly work across Montgomery County and nearby towns such as Glenside and Jenkintown, and we bring the tools for common emergency repairs: picks and extractors, plug spinners, replacement cylinders, long-throw deadbolts, and a selection of hardened bolts and screws. If the strike plate is split or the frame is cracked we fit a longer strike and stronger screws, and if the core is damaged we cut and install a new cylinder and rekey it to match other locks if you ask. We’ll tell you what we’re doing and why before we start so you can decide.
