What goes wrong
Doors that won't open, keys snapped in the cylinder, broken thumbturns, or deadbolts that refuse to retract are the kinds of emergencies we handle in Mount Airy and nearby Germantown or Chestnut Hill. We carry picks, extractor tools, cylinder removers, plug spinners and bolt-cutting gear so we can assess a lock in place and decide whether to repair the cylinder, remove a broken key, or replace the whole lock body. When a latch is bent or the strike is torn out of the frame we can straighten or reinforce the frame and fit a longer-throw deadbolt if the metal will accept it.

What the job involves
People often call because their key broke or the mechanism seized and the knob turns but the bolt doesn't move. We make a visual and mechanical inspection first, testing the cylinder, tailpiece and cam to see if the problem is the keyway, the lock core, or the connecting hardware inside the door. If a core is worn out we extract it; if tumblers are jammed we either flush and re-pin or swap in a new core. For doors with reinforced plates, we check the screws, the strike, and the bolt face so replacement parts match the existing setup.

Good to know
While we drive out from Havertown you can do a few practical things that make the job safer and quicker. Keep the door closed if the issue is a broken key in the lock so the cylinder is not under stress, and if you are locked out try to stand to the side of the door rather than directly in line with it to avoid injury if a part gives way. Have any remaining keys, proof of residence, and the make or model of the lock handy if you know them; a photo of the lock from the outside can be useful when you call.

Worth knowing
We carry common cylinders, mortise components, rim locks, and a range of knob and deadbolt hardware so we can match the door’s existing function and security level. When replacement is needed we fit parts that work with the door's thickness, backset and strike configuration, and we can reinforce a weak frame or install longer screws and a reinforced strike plate to reduce future failures. If you have a problem in Roxborough or Wyndmoor we respond the same way: inspect, explain the options in plain terms, and then work on the lock where it sits.
