What goes wrong
A lost or broken key, a deadbolt that won’t retract, a cylinder that shears when you try to turn it; those are the calls we get as emergency locksmiths. In Chestnut Hill we handle lockouts from entry doors, apartment latches that jam, panic bars that won’t release, and doors with split or swollen frames after a forced entry. We also deal with snapped keys in cylinders and electronic keypads that fail to accept codes. Those problems tend to be urgent because they stop access or leave a door insecure; our work starts with diagnosing how the hardware has failed.

What the job involves
When we arrive we assess the door, the strike, and the lock body to pick the least destructive path. We try non-destructive entry first: picking or bypassing a latch, removing trim to access the cylinder, or tightening a loose mounting plate. If the cylinder is damaged we remove and replace it or rekey the existing hardware if the plug can be salvaged. We carry replacement cylinders, deadbolts, rim locks, mortise parts, and reinforced strikes, plus the cutters and key blanks needed to make on-site keys. We drive out from Havertown and bring the tools to finish the job where the lock is.

Good to know
While you wait, clear a working space near the door and make sure any pets or children are in another room. If the door is damaged, move valuables away from the opening and, for businesses, secure inventory as best you can until we can make repairs. Have photo ID or proof of ownership ready so we can confirm you are authorized to receive new keys or have a lock changed. If you’re renting, call the property manager or landlord and let them know we’re on the way; we will need to note who authorized the work.

Worth knowing
Before we start work, have any existing keys, a gate or building code, and the brand or model stamped on the lock if you can find it. Measurements like backset and door thickness help if you have them, and photos sent over text speed up replacement decisions. We’ll explain whether rekeying the cylinder, swapping the plug, or installing a new deadbolt or reinforced strike is the right fix, and what hardware will hold up to normal use. When you call we’ll tell you honestly how soon we can come and what we’ll bring to get the door secure.
