What goes wrong
Cars lock for a few common reasons: a key left on the seat, a key broken off in the cylinder, or a fob battery that died and prevented remote unlocking. We assess what type of lock and door mechanism the vehicle has (push-button handles, vertical latches, pull-type handles, trunk releases) and decide on a non-destructive option first. If a key is snapped in the lock we extract the fragment and inspect the cylinder for damage before any rekeying or replacement. In older models the linkage is often a simple rod; newer cars may use an electric actuator we have to access.

What the job involves
We work on the hardware itself: removing interior panels when necessary, manipulating linkages, and using pick sets and tension tools made for automotive pins and wafer stacks. For vehicles with reinforced striker plates or heavy latches on aftermarket locks we take care to move the mechanism without forcing bent parts. If a cylinder needs replacing we match the physical profile: straight blade, sidewinder, or laser-cut, and cut a new key to that profile once the lock is fitted. We carry blanks and cutting equipment so we can leave the vehicle usable.

Good to know
While we prepare to come out from Havertown you can help the job go faster by staying with the vehicle or making sure you can be reached by phone. If you have proof of ownership ready for us to check, that speeds verification; a vehicle title, registration, or a picture of the registration with your name and the plate number is what we look for. Keep any spare fobs, valet keys, or remote shells handy so we can test them. If a key broke, bring all remaining pieces and show us how the original key cut looked.

Worth knowing
We service Chestnut Hill drivers and nearby callers, including people coming from Mount Airy, and we treat each lockout as a technical problem rather than a dramatic emergency. We explain what we found and what work is required before we start: whether the cylinder can be salvaged, whether the fault is the key track or an internal actuator, or whether the ignition needs a new tumblers set. If you want a keyed-alike set or additional copies, we can make them on site when the vehicle allows, cutting and testing each key before we hand it over.
