What goes wrong
We handle emergency lock problems that are straightforward and some that are messy. Common calls are wonky deadbolts that bind, broken keys stuck in a cylinder, latchbolts that won’t retract, and electronic keypads with drained batteries or failed wiring. On site we assess the door, the strike, and the cylinder type, decide whether to extract or replace parts, and work to preserve the existing hardware when possible. We drive out from Havertown and bring hand tools, drill bits, and replacement cylinders so we can address most situations without a return trip.

What the job involves
When a key snaps or a thumbturn won’t move, we avoid harsh force that damages the door edge or strike. We use picks, extractors, and controlled drilling only when necessary; for mortise locks we check for seized internal parts and for knobsets we examine spindle wear. If an electronic lock has failed we test the battery contacts and the wiring harness before replacing the module. We document what failed and explain the repair options clearly so you can choose what to do next.

Good to know
While you wait, if you can safely sit inside or on a covered porch, stay out of the way of the work area and keep small children and pets clear of tools. Have something that proves you live there handy, such as mail with your name, a photo ID, or a lease. If there’s a secondary key or an accessible window you’ve authorized for entry, tell us before we start. We tell callers how soon we can come and we’ll confirm over the phone what we need you to have ready when we arrive.

Worth knowing
Some emergencies require replacing the lock entirely: a door with a long-throw deadbolt and a torn strike, a cylinder so badly corroded it won’t turn, or a reinforced frame that needs different hardware. We cut and code new keys, rekey cylinders when possible, and, when a keypad or smart lock is part of the job, we help with battery swaps and pairing. If you’re in East Nantmeal Township or nearby Wallace Township or Warwick Township, we will explain the options on site and leave the installed work ready to use.
