What goes wrong
Cars lock themselves in a dozen ways: keys left on the front seat, a folding key snapped off in the ignition, a transponder fob that stops talking to the car, or a trunk that won’t release. We see mechanical cylinder sticks, bent blades, worn teeth on older keys and electronics that fail to wake the locking system. In Upper Frederick Township those same failures happen in parking lots, driveways and at home, and they’re what bring people to our phone. We explain what’s happening and what we can do about it.

What the job involves
When we get to a car we work to get access without damaging doors or trim. We carry long-reach tools, lock picks, and wedge and probe kits that let us manipulate door mechanisms or unlock trunks safely when possible. If a mechanical cylinder is seized or the ignition is damaged we can remove and replace the ignition switch or related hardware as the vehicle needs it. We do non-destructive entry first and move to repair or replacement only when necessary.

Good to know
Key work is a common follow-up to a lockout. We cut replacement blades on site and can program transponder keys and remotes so the vehicle recognizes them. We supply new blades, key shells and fob batteries, and we can clone or program remotes for many models. Automotive key systems differ from house locks, and our on-site work focuses on creating functioning keys, programming electronics and replacing ignition components when that is the appropriate fix.

Worth knowing
While you wait it helps to be ready with proof of ownership, the vehicle registration, and a photo ID so we can verify you are the owner. Have the vehicle make, model, year and current key type handy, and tell us if the key has a transponder or a removable blade. We drive out from Havertown to the scene and will tell you realistically when we can come; if you’re somewhere in Upper Frederick Township or nearby Green Lane or New Hanover Township, having the documents and the right details speeds the process and gets you back on the road with a usable key.
