What goes wrong
Cars lock out for a handful of common mechanical reasons: the key breaks in the cylinder, the transponder fails to communicate, a power lock motor is jammed, or a latch binds because a rod has come loose. We describe what we see and why a door won't open, starting with the keyway and the cylinder, then checking the linkage and the electrical feed on vehicles with power locks. In Montgomery Township we often work on both older mechanical linkages and newer electronic systems, so we bring tools to address either problem on the spot.

What the job involves
When we get to a vehicle we first establish a safe working plan and explain options in plain terms. We inspect the door edge, the lock cylinder, the trunk latch or hatch, and any visible wiring. For cars with transponder keys we check whether the key blade will turn the cylinder and whether the onboard electronics show signs of life. If a broken key needs extraction we use slimline extractors and tension tools; if a lock cylinder must be removed we expose the retaining fastener and replace or repair it in place when possible.

Good to know
While we work you can help the job go smoothly by having the registration or proof of ownership ready and by telling us what happened and which key was last used. If there are multiple keys or a valet key, point that out; if you have a spare fob or a remote, let us know. We may need you to operate the ignition or buttons while we test a motor or actuator, so staying by the vehicle is useful. If you called from Montgomery Township we drive out from Havertown and bring both mechanical and electronic tools to the job.

Worth knowing
We carry a range of replacement hardware for common failures: spare cylinders, latch assemblies, mounting screws, and a selection of key blanks for on-vehicle cutting. We also carry small diagnostic tools for checking battery voltage and continuity on power locks and actuators. When a door is forced open elsewhere, we check the strike and the door frame for bent metal and repair or shim the strike so the bolt seats properly. If you’re in Montgomeryville, Lansdale, Hatfield Township or North Wales we handle the same vehicle problems and the same hardware needs.
