The buildings and the hardware
The building stock here affects the hardware we see. Many single-family doors are older, solid-core wood units with mortise or rim locks; those need longer bolts, heavier backset latches, or full-frame reinforcement to accept modern deadbolts. Multi-unit buildings and small storefronts more often use bored cylindrical locks, commercial-grade lever sets, or surface-mounted panic hardware, and those installations require different trim and strike specifications. We often retrofit contemporary cylinder locks into older doors, deal with warped frames and misaligned strikes, or swap cores to match an apartment master key system, so the job isn’t just the lock but how it fits the door and frame.
