What goes wrong
Locks on older wood doors, warped frames and stripped keyways are common calls we handle in West Philadelphia. We pick broken keys from deadbolts, reshape bent latches and replace cylinders that have seized from grime or corrosion. We also tackle failures where the knob turns but the bolt won’t retract, which is often a worn internal cam or a broken tailpiece. When you call from a rowhouse or apartment building we’ll explain whether the work requires a new cylinder, a full lockset swap, or just a lubricant and cleaning.

What the job involves
If you’re locked out we’ll talk you through safe options while we drive out from Havertown. Keep your ID ready if you’re the leaseholder or homeowner, and have proof of residency handy for apartments. If there’s a spare key with a neighbor or building manager, tell us so, sometimes that gets you in without forcing the door. Stay where you can be seen and can hear; we’ll ask you about the door construction and any recent changes you’ve made to hinges or thresholds.

Good to know
For security upgrades we fit deadbolts with long throws, reinforce strikes with longer screws, and swap thin, stamped latch plates for thicker, forged ones. We also install keyed-alike sets so multiple locks use the same key, and we cut new keys on site when the original is lost. If you have a metal door or a multi-point locking system, we’ll explain whether cylinder replacement or hardware reinforcement is the safer fix. In West Philadelphia homes with older frames we often recommend reinforcing the jamb and hinge screws to prevent kick-in.

Worth knowing
When we work on sliding doors, patio locks or mailbox cylinders we check the whole mechanism: rollers, keepers and the strike pocket. For interior lock issues (bathroom or bedroom privacy locks that stick or won’t latch), we remove and inspect the latch, replace worn spindles and realign the strike. While you wait, clear a small workspace near the door and move furniture that blocks access to hinges; if the door has glass nearby, let us know for safety reasons. If you live near University City or Overbrook, tell us about any building access rules when you call.
