What goes wrong
Most emergency calls are straightforward things gone wrong: a key snapped in the cylinder, a deadbolt that won’t retract because the door has swollen, a latch jammed behind a warped jamb, or an electronic keypad that won’t accept inputs. We also handle lockouts where the knob hardware is intact but the tailpiece sheared off, and vehicles with broken ignition or trunk locks. In West Philadelphia those failure modes are the same as anywhere else (metal parts fail, screws back out, springs fatigue), and we target the broken component rather than guessing.

What the job involves
When we get the call we load the truck and drive out from Havertown with the tools and parts that cover most emergencies: extractor bits, plug spinners, replacement cylinders and cores, long-throw deadbolts, reinforced strikes, key blanks, and battery packs for keypads. The work itself can mean extracting a broken key, spinning the plug to get the door open, replacing a worn cylinder, realigning or shimming a strike plate, or swapping in a fresh keypad module. We cut or program keys on site as needed and leave the hardware functioning.

Good to know
While you wait, make the scene safe and useful. Stay where you can see or hear the door, keep pets secured so we can work without them getting in the way, and clear the area around the lock so we can set tools and parts down. Tell us whether the lock has a security chain, whether a landlord or building manager needs to sign off, and whether anyone with authority will meet us. If a vehicle is involved, have your registration or proof of ownership at hand and keep the vehicle locked until we’re there.

Worth knowing
To speed the job, have on hand whatever identifies you as the property owner or authorized occupant, the keys you still have, and any paperwork or lease that shows you can authorize work. Note the lock type if you know it: cylinder knob, mortise, rim deadbolt, or electronic keypad, and the make or model from any markings on the hardware. We work on residential doors, commercial storefronts, mailbox and cabinet locks, safes, and vehicle locks; if you’re in or near University City and need emergency help, tell us that when you call so we come prepared for the common lock types in your building.
