What goes wrong
Homes call us when a lock stops doing its basic job: a deadbolt jams and won’t extend, a key snaps in the cylinder, a knob turns without catching, or an old latch sits proud of a warped door. We see stripped keyways, corroded thumbturns, mortise locks with loose screws, and smart locks with dead batteries or software faults. In Southwest Philadelphia we handle those failures directly: diagnosing whether the cylinder can be rekeyed, the tailpiece repaired, or the whole lock replaced with a solid, forged deadbolt and reinforced strike.

What the job involves
When we arrive from Havertown we start with a quick inspection to decide the least-destructive route. Often that means trying non-destructive entry or picking a pin-tumbler, checking bolt throw and strike alignment, and testing spindle and set-screw fit on knob or lever hardware. If the cylinder is seized or the key is broken we remove the broken bit and decide if a new cylinder or a full lockset is needed. We carry common cylinders, replacement knobs, deadbolts, and longer screws to secure the strike and jamb.

Good to know
While you wait it helps if you stay nearby in a safe spot and have identification and proof that you live at the address or have permission to be there. Have any existing keys and the make or model of the lock if you know it; that speeds parts selection. If pets are loose, secure them out of the work area. We explain the options before cutting parts or drilling, and we run through what replacement hardware will do differently (longer throw, reinforced strike, or a hardened cylinder), so you can choose what fits the door and frame.

Worth knowing
We also handle common follow-ups: rekeying multiple locks to work on one key, installing a new deadbolt when the jamb is weak, and swapping out older knob sets for a solid lever or keyed entry. In Southwest Philadelphia and nearby boroughs like Darby or Collingdale we regularly encounter doors with rough jambs or missing backboxes, and we reinforce the opening with longer screws, strike plates, or a wrap-around plate where needed. If you want us to come from Havertown to Southwest Philadelphia, call and we’ll tell you when we can be there and what to expect.
