What goes wrong
Locks in houses fail in a few regular ways: a deadbolt with a short throw that won’t engage, a latch that catches on a warped jamb, cylinder pins that have worn or been jammed with debris, or keyed knobs with hollow, stamped mechanisms that slip. We handle stuck keys, snapped keys in cylinders, rekeying after a move, and replacing hardware that’s been forced in a break-in. In Hatboro we see a lot of older mortise locks whose internal levers bind; we take them apart, clean or replace the worn parts, and explain whether a replacement cylinder or a full lock body is the sensible next step.

What the job involves
When we drive out from Havertown we bring the tools and a selection of cylinders, bolts, and strike plates so we can often repair or replace on site. For a broken key we use extraction tools, then measure the cylinder and keyway to determine whether we can re-pin the existing core or need a new cylinder. For entrance doors we inspect the strike and the jamb for gaps; sometimes the solution is a longer bolt and a reinforced strike box, other times the door itself needs a carpenter before the bolt will seat cleanly.

Good to know
Should a child, a pet or anyone unwell be inside, call 911 before you call us. Have ID ready and, if you have them, the original keys, any existing packaging or model numbers from the lock, and a copy of a utility bill or mail with your name on it if ownership needs to be confirmed.

Worth knowing
For security upgrades we recommend hardware that is solid and forged where appropriate: long-throw deadbolts, bolts with a substantial cross-section, and strike plates with multiple screws into the framing. We avoid thin, stamped latches on exterior doors and point out where a door edge or frame is hollow or light-gauge and will need reinforcement. If you live near Hatboro and the surrounding townships such as Willow Grove or Horsham Township, we explain the practical differences between swapping a cylinder, rekeying multiple locks, or installing a reinforced, three-screw strike so you can choose which work to authorize.
