What goes wrong
Locks fail in a few common ways in emergencies: keys snap in the cylinder, bolts get pushed out of alignment, latch mechanisms jam with dirt or rust, and deadbolts can be turned but no longer retract. We handle those troubles at the door. When you call from Swarthmore we explain what we think is happening and what tools we expect to bring. If a key is broken in a lever or rim cylinder we start by removing the core or extracting the fragment, then assess whether the cylinder needs replacement, rekeying, or a new core.

What the job involves
When a lock is forced or the strike plate is ripped, the job moves from extraction to repair. We check the door jamb, the strike reinforcement, and the length of the bolt or deadlatch throw to select hardware that matches what was damaged. For stuck multipoint locks we inspect the cams and linkage and free the mechanism before deciding on parts. We carry common cylinders, mortise pieces, tubular latches, and reinforced strikes so we can make the repair on site when the part fits the existing configuration.

Good to know
While you wait we ask you to secure the area, remove valuables from reach of the door, and if the lock is on an exterior entry to prop an internal door or set a temporary barrier so the home or office isn’t unguarded. We may ask you to check for a spare key or a photos of the lock and key if you have one; a clear photo of the cylinder and keyway helps us know which picks and extractors to bring. If you’re in Swarthmore and someone else has a copy of the key, telling us that helps our planning.

Worth knowing
We drive out from Havertown in our van stocked for emergency work and we work where the lock sits; there’s no shop visit. When a lock is beyond repair we provide on-site replacement using solid, forged deadbolts, long-throw bolts, heavy-duty mortise cylinders, or reinforced strikes depending on the door and frame. We rekey or cut a new key to match the new hardware and test the bolt engagement and latch alignment. If the property needs a temporary solution until a full upgrade, we fit a secure interim device and explain the next steps.
